A Preschool that Fosters Love for the Land through History and Local Identity
This newly built preschool in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture, is designed to harmonize with the historical townscape shaped by the Tone River’s thriving river transport during the Edo period. Architectural elements of traditional “machiya” townhouses—such as wooden siding and lattice details—are incorporated throughout the building. Through daily interactions with the local culture and scenery, children develop a deep connection to the land. The preschool aspires to be a place that carries the memory of the town into the future.
